    1. I need a portable way to calculate a hash of a file path from bash that’s likely to work on modern unix-like operating systems. For my use case, it needn’t be cryptographically secure. Ideas?

    (This is for caching intermediate build products as part of a slow test suite. I’d previously been using node numbers, but, well, that fails kind of badly in CI when the build environment is constantly torn down and rebuilt.)
