It's new laptop time. Current MacBook keyboards are kind of a war crime. I want to want a Pixelbook. ChromeOS even has reasonableish Linux app support. But I do need to run Windows apps sometimes. And hey, Windows also has decent Linux app support.

I'm looking for something that weighs 1.1Kg or less, has a 13 or 14" screen, an i7, at least 16G of RAM, 1 or 2 NVMe slots, can nominally run 8+ hours on a charge. If I'm dreaming big, I'd also like a matte screen.
-
Right now, I'm leaning toward an LG 14T990. Nominally, the new X1 Carbon hits my specs, but I have had catastrophic luck with Lenovo.
-
Right. The X1 Carbon is...nice. And has some things I'd really like. But it has 30% less battery than the LG. (And no open DIMM slot, which is gratuitous, but wonderful)

Just to get this threaded: Bought the LG. It’s going back in the morning. @obra/1146971925865885696?s=21 Next up: Thinkpad?
-
Ordered an X1 Carbon. This can't possibly go wrong, right?
-
Lenovo just sent me mail thanking me for my purchase of an X1 Carbon and recommending other products they think I should buy...like an X1 Carbon.
-
Today's X1 Carbon update: No shipping notification, but Lenovo's now having a sale on the laptop I ordered on Friday.
-
Today’s update: no update from Lenovo. But also no new sales promos. Beginning to question my life choices.

Started reading the Lenovo customer forum thread on shipping for the X1C7. Oops. forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/ThinkPad-X-series-shipping-thread-2019-edition/td-p/4346198/page/6
-
Oh hey! Order status updated. The ship date slipped a day. The delivery date slipped...three?
-
I just spoke to Lenovo. They tell me that this product is very popular and they can't keep up with demand. When I asked why the "2-5 day" shipping was now estimated at 10 days, they said it was because they batch shipments. *sigh*
-
So confused.
-
Until a moment ago, the UPS tracking # for the thinkpad was showing up as invalid. I just reloaded the tracking page. It did not say what I hoped it might.
-
Oh good. Now it shows as in-transit from North Carolina..with an 8 day delivery commitment. *sigh*

Taking bets on whether the Thinkpad is DOA
