@gnat devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/?p=18913 A 1601 epoch is far less weird (to me) than the classic Mac HFS epoch, which got picked, iirc, because going further back would mean they would have had to include code to calculate that 1900 wasn’t a leap year.
